New Rifle Brass

New Rifle Brass

We offers a great selection of new rifle brass for reloading from the best brass manufacturers.

New Unprimed Rifle Brass

The highest quality ammo that you can manufacture starts with the using highest quality brass and reloading components. High quality unprimed brass is different than once fired brass primarily in its uniformity and strength. Once ammunition has been fired, the brass is fire formed to your chamber from the pressures that are created by the explosion inside your cartridge. If you purchase once fired range brass or processed brass you may be saving a little money on your initial investment in reloading for that weapon but your brass won't be very concentric because it was fired from perhaps multiple different weapons so each piece has been fire formed differently then your chamber would. If obtaining the highest accuracy for your match, precision hunting, long range shooting and even plinking then you should start with the highest quality new unprimed brass as you can afford. Have concentric brass with uniform wall thickness can make the difference of several hundred feet a second or more which will affect your point of impact negatively.

Used Range Brass or Once Fired  Brass

We don't currently stock any used range brass. Range brass is a good choice if your preparing for the end or taking your cheap friends out shooting or if you are happy with shooting less accurate ammunition or don't need precision ammo because your goal is to shoot some gongs and a 2-3 shot grouping is acceptable.  Save the good handloads for yourself. Your buds won't know the difference. If your weapon isn't capable of being very accurate once fired brass may be a good selection because more expensive ammunition won't make much of a difference. If you are loading for long range hunting or are loading for long range target shooting, starting with new unprimed rifle brass is the best way to go.

Processed Brass

Processed brass is basically another name for range brass that has been processed to some degree or another. I don't recommend buying processed brass and if you do, we recommend processing it fully again yourself to insure that whomever processed your brass didn't miss any steps or fail to process your brass properly. There is only one person who is responsible for your ammunition manufacturing and it is you. You are probably better off purchasing range brass or once fired brass and processing it yourself.

How to Process Rifle Brass

There are a lot of ways that you can process brass. We will go over briefly our process and provide recommendations as to the equipment needed in each step.

If you're working with range brass, once fired brass or processed batch follow these additional steps.

  1. Tumble the brass in a wet or dry tumbler.
  2. Thoroughly dry the brass in a warm oven or with airflow.
  3. Deprime
  4. Resize (either full or neck) also expands the neck opening
  5. Trim
  6. Chamfer and deburr
  7. Clean and uniform primer pocket
  8. Debur primer flash hole
  9. Tumble again
  10. Thoroughly dry again
  11. Prime
  12. Charge with selected gunpowder
  13. Seat selected bullet
  14. Crimp if desired or required

If you're working with new unprimed brass follow these additional steps. High quality factory brass is usually very uniform in its wall thickness and concentricity but it should always be checked before loading regardless.

  1. Prime
  2. Charge with selected gunpowder
  3. Seat selected bullet
  4. Crimp if desired or required

If you goal is to obtain the highest level of accuracy with your reloading then your brass should be kept in batches and only be fired from one weapon. This batch should stay with the weapon through the brass's life. Each bass should have all of the same operations performed on them at the same time. So if you need to trim a few, trim them all, if you spend 4 seconds chamfering then spend 4 seconds on them all. If you notice any imperfections, dents or damage then the brass should either be recycled or reused in a weapon where extreme accuracy is not the objective.
