Due to the tapered body of the 22-250, cases are prone to stretch when full-length sized between firings. Case life can be extended dramatically by using a neck sizing die, or a full-length die adjusted to size only the neck portion of the case. IMR4895, H380, and Varget are excellent powders for the 22-250 Remington. Varget is a versatile choice because of its great tolerance for temperature changes. Capable of stabilizing bullets as long as our 55 grain Ballistic Tip® and 60 grain Partition®, the 22-250 uses a standard rifling twist rate of 1-14”. In recent years, there has been significant interest in load data for fast twist barrels and heavy weight bullets.

The .22-250 Remington is a very high-velocity (capable of reaching over 4000 feet per second), short action, .22 caliber rifle cartridge primarily used for varmint hunting and small game hunting, though it finds occasional use on deer. This cartridge is also sometimes known as the .22 Varminter or the .22 Wotkyns Original Swift. Along with the .220 Swift, the .22-250 was one of the high-velocity .22 caliber cartridges that developed a reputation for remote wounding effects known as hydrostatic shock in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
