Hornady 416 Caliber .416 500gr A-Tip Match Bullets /25

Years of research and testing by the Hornady Ballistic Development Group, combined with advanced manufacturing processes and quality control measures have led to the creation of the ultimate low drag, high performance match bullet.

Use of a new A-TIP seating stem is required for optimal bullet seating.

Product Features
TIP DESIGN
Aluminum tip is precision machined and longer than polymer tips which moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability.
Aeroballistically advanced tip design results in tighter groups and reduced drag variability.
Perfect blend of ogive, tip length, bearing surface and optimized boattail by caliber.

PERFORMANCE
Doppler radar verified low drag coefficient (high BC) bullets are forgiving of twist rate, seating depth and muzzle velocity.
Refined design of the AMP bullet jacket offers industry leading uniformity and concentricity.

MANUFACTURING
Right off the press – sequentially packaged, one clone after another for the ultimate in consistent performance.
Minimal handling throughout the manufacturing process ensures consistency from bullet to bullet.
Packaged with a polishing bag to prepare bullets for loading (bullets aren’t bulk washed after manufacture).

Additional Information
LARGE CALIBER A-TIP MATCH BULLET TWIST RATES
Hornady large caliber A-Tip Match bullets offer shooters the ultimate in performance at any distance to include Extreme Long Range (ELR). Unlike mono-metal, lathe turned solid copper or copper alloy bullets, A-Tip bullets feature three components (gilding metal jacket, lead core & aluminum tip) that are carefully designed to maximize bullet performance at supersonic, transonic and subsonic velocities. Accuracy and overall consistency are key, particularly when shooting ELR. In order to take advantage of the advanced performance offered by the large caliber A-Tip bullets, shooters must use appropriate barrel twist rates that work with these jacketed bullets.

Twist rate refers to the rate of spin in the rifle barrel and is represented in inches per turn. For instance, a twist rate of 1:10 means the bullet will spin one revolution in 10 inches of barrel. A faster twist rate may spin the bullet one revolution in only 8 inches of barrel and would be expressed as 1:8. The lower the number, the faster the spin.

The barrel's twist causes the bullet to spin on its axis as it flies through the air — like a quarterback throwing a football with a tight spiral — for greater accuracy and stability.

So, why do other bullets need extremely fast twist rates? The short answer is because they're so long.

Traditional ELR bullets are turned on a lathe out of solid material with no lead. They have to be longer to produce the weight necessary to reduce drag. But that also requires an extremely fast twist rate to spin them up for stability in flight.

Hornady large caliber A-Tip Match bullets, on the other hand, are conventional, jacketed, lead-core projectiles. Because lead is denser than the lathe-turned material of other bullets, A-Tip® bullets don't have to be as long and don't require faster twist rates such as 1:8 or 1:9.

In fact, abnormally fast twist rates put too much torque on a bullet and can deform the jacket. Use of large caliber A-Tip bullets in fast twist barrels such as 1:8 to 1:10 may require reducing velocity and subsequent spin rate of the projectile for best results.

Hornady recommends the following twist rates for our larger caliber A-Tip Match bullets:

.375 caliber 390 grain — 1:11 twist rate
.416 caliber 500 grain — 1:12 twist rate

About the Manufacturer
The company was founded by Joyce Hornady (1907-1981) who started in the munitions business in the early 1940s when he teamed up with Vernon Speer to make bullet jackets from spent brass rimfire cases. After World War II, Hornady began buying up surplus manufacturing equipment from the US government such as Waterbury-Farrell transfer presses, which are still in use by the company today. In 1964, Hornady began manufacturing rifle and pistol ammunition.

"Ten bullets through one hole" was the philosophy of Joyce Hornady, the company's founder. This great idea of accuracy and perfection has continued from the first bullet made more than sixty years ago, right through today.

Like so many successful companies, Hornady Manufacturing was born out of one man's vision of a better product for his own use. Joyce Hornady was an avid shooter and needed a steady supply of good, accurate bullets. While commercially available bullets were usable, Joyce felt that better bullets could be made.

We continue to be one of the largest independent producers of bullets in the World. They sell bullets as separate components, loaded in Hornady Ammunition, and also to other ammunition companies to be loaded in their premium grade ammo. Their employees exhibit our products at trade shows and shooting matches across the country, and our product lines are represented to dealers and distributors by over 70 independent sales representatives.

Hornady Manufacturing has been the recipient of many industry awards and has also given generously within the community of Grand Island, where we make our home. Organizations supported include the United Way, the Platte River Charity Shoot, the Heartland Public Shooting Park, Hope Harbor, the Central-Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross, Stuhr Museum and the list goes on.

Hornady was the leading founder of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund, and they support or serve on The National Shooting Sports Foundation, Honored American Veterans Afield, the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute, The National Rifle Association, and many others. As a member of the shooting and hunting sports industry, Hornady realizes the need to give back to the sports that keep them in business and maintain our heritage.

The stature of Hornady Manufacturing Company within its industry has never been higher. Combine the best customer base with the best employees, throw in the family/management team running this business; it's hard not to be successful.

The company is currently run by Joyce Hornady's son, Steve Hornady, who took over after his father's death in a plane crash on January 15, 1981, The Piper Aztec, with Hornady at the controls flying in heavy fog, crashed into Lake Pontchartrain while on final approach to New Orleans Lakefront Airport.

Hornady makes target shooting and hunting rounds as well as self-defense loads.
