About the Manufacturer
FN Herstal is part of the Herstal Group that celebrated 125 years of excellence in 2014.

Under the brands FN Herstal, Browning and Winchester Firearms*, the Herstal Group designs, manufactures and distributes a full range of firearms and associated products for defense, law enforcement, hunting, and shooting.

The Herstal Group has its headquarters in Herstal, a suburb of Liege, Belgium, and offices in several other European countries, North America and Asia.

The Herstal Group has two internationally renowned subsidiaries:

FN Herstal, whose undisputed expertise lies in Defense and Law Enforcement business, and Browning, who commercializes the Browning and Winchester trademarks and is a world leader in hunting, shooting and outdoor.

Each subsidiary has its own research, development and manufacturing facilities, and its own selling network.

Since 1997, Herstal Group has been 100% owned by the Walloon Region of Belgium. With manufacturing locations in Belgium, US, UK, Portugal, Japan and Finland, the global Herstal Group provides employment to a workforce of about 2,400 people.

FN Herstal has a long history of weapon manufacturing excellence, dating back to 1889 when many of the region's arms makers joined together to complete a large contract for 150,000 military rifles for the Belgian government under the original company name of Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre.

From the very start, FN Herstal has focused on innovation and product improvement, resulting in the development and production of a large number of state-of-the-art weapons and associated products being renowned and used by Military and Law Enforcement operators around the globe. This accounts for FN Herstal establishing in the last fifty years a position of worldwide leadership in the small arms market.

Founded in Herstal, Belgium, the Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN) was launched by the region's most highly respected gunmakers from the Liege area that already had a five century old tradition of designing and manufacturing firearms. FN's first mission: to manufacture 150,000 Mauser rifles for the Belgian government.

A rifle is powerless without ammunition. And so, two years later, the FN cartridge factory was established in Belgium to manufacture ammunition for the Mauser rifle and to provide Belgium's military forces with the firepower they needed.

Just before the turn of the century, in 1897, FN first partnered with John Moses Browning. Browning continues to be regarded as one of the greatest firearms inventors in history. He is credited with designing the original 9mm High Power automatic handgun (known as the GP in French), of which one million have been manufactured by FN since 1935. Truly committed to his craft, JM Browning designed a series of well known and widely used pistols, from the Model 1900, through the Models 1910 and 10/22 to the High Power that was completed after his death.

In the 1920s the partnership between Browning and FN Herstal bore one of its signature firearms - the BARâ„¢ automatic rifle. This was followed in the 1930s, by the legendary .50 cal (12.7mm) M2HB heavy machine gun, still widely used today. Mountable on either a tripod or a wide variety of vehicles, boats and ships, the M2HB continues to be regarded as one of the finest firearms ever made.
